Not far from where I live is a lovely woods where winding trails lead you over Spring Creek through a shadowy forest and on to the deep green of Messenger Marsh. The cool green of the leaves and the dusky forest shadows create a favorite spot for a morning run, especially in summer when the colors are so intense. When I came across a cache of vintage green and black Czech beads in a Nashville bead shop last spring and I couldn't help but think of home and the Marsh. These rare beads are extremely special--shades of spring green combined with deep green and black in four different shapes: diamond, round, pineapple and pinecone. The colorations on each bead make each unique. Although vintage they are in perfect condition and have been hand-wired to create a twenty-four-inch long chain that closes with a handmade oxidized copper hook embellished with a Swarovski crystal dangle. The focal for this unique chain is a rare vintage pressed Czech glass shield that measures one and three-quarter inches long by one and a half inches at its widest point. The beautiful black glass shield is deeply embossed with flowers and scrolls across its entire surface. A striking yet simple necklace, this piece is as timeless as the marsh for which it was named.
